Friday Reflection

One of my favourite leadership questions is: “How would your team describe the way you lead through change?”

Not the strategy or the outcome.

The experience.

Would they say:

  • you listened?
  • you were visible?
  • explained the “why” behind difficult decisions?
  • they felt involved?

Leadership is tested when uncertainty, competing priorities and difficult conversations become the norm.

I’ve discovered that the leaders who create the strongest commitment aren’t necessarily the most charismatic.

They’re the most consistent. They continue showing up. They keep communicating and remain curious. They make time for conversations even when the project plan feels overwhelming.

Most importantly, they remember that change happens one person at a time.

Every conversation is an opportunity to either build trust or weaken it.

As this week comes to an end, I’d encourage you to think about one person who may seem hesitant about a change you’re leading.

Ask yourself – “What conversation haven’t we had yet?”

That single shift in mindset has the potential to change not only the outcome of your next change initiative, but the way your people experience leadership.

Have a wonderful weekend.
