One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned leading organisational transformation is this:
You can’t communicate people into commitment. You have to involve them.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked on large-scale change programmes, organisational redesigns, service transformations and operating model development.
I’ve seen beautifully written communication plans.
I’ve seen detailed implementation roadmaps.
I’ve seen comprehensive governance structures.
They’re all important. But none of them replace leadership.
The reality is that every change programme eventually becomes a series of conversations.
One leader. One team. One meeting. One decision.
That’s where trust is built – or lost.
It’s also one of the reasons I wrote Leading Through Others.
The framework isn’t just about everyday leadership.
It’s about helping leaders create environments where people feel capable of contributing to change rather than simply responding to it.
Whether I’m working with executive teams, facilitating leadership workshops, coaching managers or speaking at conferences, one message consistently resonates:
People support change when they understand the purpose, feel respected throughout the journey and know how they can contribute.
That’s the kind of leadership capability organisations need now more than ever.
If your organisation is preparing leaders for transformation, I’d love to help through keynote presentations, leadership programmes, executive coaching or advisory support.
Because sustainable change is delivered by leaders who know how to bring people with them.
